Gladys Knight Anthem Performance Spurs Prop-Bet Controversy
(Undated) — Gladys Knight set off a controversy at Super Bowl 53 even before the kickoff. Knight’s rendition of the national anthem raised questions for what are called prop bets. The over-under on how long her performance would last was a minute-50 seconds. The off-shore sports book BetOnline.ag announced she sang it in a minute-49-point five. That was from when she started singing until the note brave ended for the first time. But the Empress of Soul sang brave three times, putting the running time over two minutes. BetOnline decided to pay people who bet over as well as the under bettors.
