For Immediate Release – Mattoon CUSD #2
The Mattoon High School girls basketball team will not be eligible for post season play because their 2018-2019 schedule exceeded the maximum number of regular season games allowed by the Illinois High School Association (IHSA).
The IHSA allows 31 games to be played during the regular season. Due to an oversite in scheduling, the Lady Green Wave picked up a game in December making the total number of regular season games played at 32.
IHSA was notified of the accidental error. Although there was no malicious intent, IHSA officials denied our request for the Lady Green Wave to participate in the post season.
We deeply regret the scheduling error and the lost post-season for the team. We apologize to the players, coaches, and families affected by this mistake.
Mattoon Schools are dedicated to offering many academic and extra-curricular opportunities for our students. We strive to adhere to all state mandates and codes during implementation and scheduling of these programs. Procedures and policies related to scheduling are under review to ensure this does not happen again.
