For Immediate Release from Mattoon Fire
The Mattoon Fire Department responded to 2 working structure fires located at 1313 Lakeland Boulevard on Monday, February 11, 2019, at 0413 hours. Upon arrival, fire crews reported heavy flames showing through the roof of the North apartment complex and smoke coming from the Southwest apartment complex. The on scene command requested a box alarm assignment due to multiple structures on fire. Additional personnel were needed.
Fire crews worked to extinguish both fires. All apartments were vacant at the time of the fire.
The origin and cause of the fire is still being investigated with the assistance of the State Fire Marshall.
The Mattoon Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Charleston Fire Department, Mattoon Police Department, Ameren Gas and Electric and Dunn’s ambulance. Investigators are still on the scene.
No injuries to report at this time.

Fire broke out this morning at the U.S. Grant Motel in Mattoon. Crews are still on scene. Currently, Olive is closed from 18th to 19th Streets. Please avoid the area for the time being.
