The suspect who led police on a high-speed, multi-county chase this morning is in custody. Cumberland County authorities started investigating a home invasion around 2:30 this morning at a rural residence. Authorities say the suspect broke in, displayed a handgun and demanded keys to the resident’s car. The suspect then left in the car, which was involved in the high-speed chase that covered multiple counties. The chase ended in Champaign County when the suspect was apprehended after fleeing on foot.

Multiple police departments are still searching for a suspect who was involved in an armed home invasion. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Department says the incident began around 4:00 this morning as they partnered with the Sullivan Police Department and the Moultrie County Sheriff’s Department with the pursuit of the suspect. The pursuit spanned multiple counties, with speeds exceeding 100 miles-per-hour. During the pursuit, a Douglas County Deputy’s squad car crashed into another vehicle. There were no injuries. When the chase reached Champaign County, the suspect fled on foot, and is still at large.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s deputy was involved in a crash this morning. Authorities say it happened around 4:30 east of Pesotum, near county roads 1400 East and 200 North. Reportedly, the deputy is okay, however, they say this is part of a larger investigation spanning several counties. We will update the story when information becomes available.
