Today Is Mardi Gras
(New Orleans, LA) — Today is Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday. Mardi Gras marks the end of a celebratory season of events leading up to Ash Wednesday or the start of Lent. The parades, which feature decadence in costume, food and tradition, start about three weeks before and culminate on Fat Tuesday. In the New Orleans area alone, there are 70 different parades with folks decked out in beads, feathers and colorful garments. The main parade is held on the famous St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans, but celebrations are also held throughout the country to a varying degree.
