(Lincoln, IL) — The man wanted in connection with a police shooting at a Rockford, Illinois hotel this morning is now in a barricade situation in the central part of the state. John Pozzi, Deputy Chief in the Rockford Police Department, said Floyd Brown fled the Extended Stay Hotel after shooting an officer with the U.S. Marshals Task Force. Pozzi said the officer is in critical condition at the hospital. The Task Force was attempting to serve Brown with several arrest warrants. Illinois State Police Master Sergeant Sam Thomas said officers found Brown’s vehicle in the Bloomington area and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but Brown kept going and eventually crashed along Interstate 55. I-55 was shut down by police and they were able to contain Brown, but he’s currently not in custody. They are not saying where he is holed up.
Winnebago County State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross said her office has since issued an arrest warrant for Brown on attempted first degree murder charges for the officer shooting. Ross said a five-million-dollar bond warrant was issued for Brown and he faces between 20 and 80 years in prison with the potential for life in prison.
