Downstate Mayors Want Pension Reform
(Springfield, IL) — The state of Illinois’ pension problems are not the only pension worries in the state. The Illinois Municipal League and a number of downstate mayors are pressing lawmakers for help in managing their pension costs. Brad Cole with the Municipal League says cities across the state are struggling to make their pension payments. There is a plan that would allow smaller communities to pool their pension plan, as a way to both make the payments more affordable and guarantee benefits.
