UPDATED: NZ Mosque Terror Suspect Claims Revenge Motivation
(Christchurch) — The Australian-born suspect being held in connection to deadly shootings at two New Zealand mosques that killed at least 49 people, claims his motivation was revenge. The alleged white supremacist, said to be in his 20s, wrote a 70-plus page manifesto in which he refers to himself as a fascist. He reportedly said he wanted to kill as revenge for terrorism in Europe, specifically naming an eleven-year-old Swedish girl that was killed in a terrorist attack in Stockholm in 2017. The girl’s father said he was disturbed and shocked that someone would use her to commit such an act. New Zealand authorities say three other people are in custody in connection with what they’re calling a terror attack.
