The crash that shut down Route 36 in Douglas County for several hours yesterday claimed the life of 66-year-old Joan Biebel, of Malta. Illinois State Police say the St. Teresa High School teacher crossed the center line for unknown reasons and sideswiped a tractor-trailer driven by a Blue Mound man. He was hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries. The investigation continues.
