Weekly Jobless Claims At 221,000, Down 9,000
(Undated) — America’s unemployment lines are getting shorter. Figures from the Labor Department this morning show 221-thousand workers filed first-time claims for unemployment benefits last week. That’s nine-thousand fewer than the week before. The biggest jumps in claims were in Illinois, Ohio, Washington, Oregon, and Texas. The sharpest declines were in New York, Kentucky, Georgia, Arkansas, and Vermont.
