Audit Details Mishandling Of Legionnaires’ Disease Response From Rauner Administration
(Springfield, IL) — A report from the Illinois auditor general details mishandling by former Governor Bruce Rauner’s administration when responding to a deadly Legionnaires’ disease outbreak at a veterans home. The initial outbreak happened in 2015, when at least 220 residents and staff became ill. The likely cause was traced back to contamination in a water tank that was briefly out of circulation. Delays in installation of filters until April 2018 is blamed for three other outbreaks that happened in the interim.
