Illinois Lawmakers Lower Age To Stay Home Alone
(Springfield, IL) — Some tweens may soon be able to stay home alone in Illinois. Lawmakers in Springfield yesterday approved a plan to lower the age to stay home from 14 down to 12. State Rep Joe Sosnowski said right now parents who leave young teens home alone for a few hours can be charged with neglect. He wants to change that to give working parents a bit more peace of mind. The Illinois Senate will take up the plan next.
