UPDATED: One Dead In Active Shooter Situation At VA Base
(Virginia Beach, VA) — A U.S. military official says a male sailor is dead and female sailor is wounded after a shooting at a Virginia naval air base.
Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach was in lockdown for an hour this morning because of the active-shooter situation. Commanding Officer of Naval Air Station Oceana Chad Vincelette says the male sailor attacked the female sailor, who was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Base security personnel shot and killed the suspect. Vincelette added that the base has a no weapons policy and it is unclear how the sailor retrieved a weapon is under investigation. The identities of both the victim and the suspect are being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.

A military official told NBC News the shooting unfolded in a base parking lot and stemmed from a domestic disturbance. The base said in a tweet that the shooter had been contained and a victim was taken to a local hospital. It was not immediately clear if the shooter or the victim had died.
