21st Street in Mattoon to Closed May 20 Necessary for Rail Crossing Repairs
MATTOON — The Illinois Department of Transportation announces that Illinois 16 in Mattoon (21st Street) will be closed to all traffic Monday, May 20.
The closure is necessary for crews to repair the Illinois Central Railroad crossing. Access to business will be maintained during the closure, which is expected to last through Friday, May 24, weather permitting. A detour will be posted.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
