(Cupertino, CA) — It appears Apple is going to retire the program that launched the digital age of music. Bloomberg is reporting that Apple will announce at its developer conference on Monday that it is shutting down iTunes. The company reportedly wants to have separate apps for music, TV, and Podcasts. The Music app will apparently have many of the same features in iTunes. The discontinuations of iTunes has been rumored for years as companies move away from the ownership model to a subscription-based service one. Nearly two decades ago iTunes revolutionized the music industry that was struggling because of high rates of piracy.
