Our condolences to the family of Betty Hoots, who passed away Monday at the age of 86. Betty is credited for coming up with the name “Burger King.” Betty, who married Gene Hoots shortly after he purchased “The Frigid Queen” in Mattoon, said when they decided to expand the operation to include hamburgers, “Every queen needs a king.” Thus, the original Burger King was born in 1952. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to noon this Saturday (6/8) at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home in Mattoon.
