…FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING…
The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a
* Flash Flood Watch for portions of central Illinois, east
central Illinois, southeast Illinois, and west central
Illinois, including the following areas, in central Illinois,
Christian, Logan, Macon, Mason, Menard, Sangamon, and Shelby.
In east central Illinois, Clark, Coles, Cumberland, Douglas,
Edgar, and Moultrie. In southeast Illinois, Clay, Crawford,
Effingham, Jasper, Lawrence, and Richland. In west central
Illinois, Cass, Fulton, Morgan, Schuyler, and Scott.
* Through 7 AM CDT Saturday morning
* Heavy rain from multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms
through early evening, and again late this evening and overnight
is expected over areas south of I-74. The ground is already very
saturated from moderate to heavy rainfall since Wednesday, and
many rivers and streams remain high with some of the major
rivers still in flood. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2
inches with locally higher amounts through tonight could lead to
flash flooding, especially in low lying and poor drainage
areas.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION
especially at night. You should monitor later forecasts and be
prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
Never drive across a flooded roadway.
