Judge Rules Lawmaker Pay Freeze Was Unconstitutional
(Chicago, IL) — A Cook County judge is ruling that Illinois lawmakers violated the state constitution when they voted for a pay freeze. The ruling on Tuesday was the result of a lawsuit filed by former state Senators Michael Noland of Elgin and James Clayborne of Belleville against state Comptroller Susana Mendoza. The suit sought back pay for the pay freeze action from 2009 to 2016. The judge hearing the case did not order checks to be issued to anyone, but another hearing has been scheduled for August, according to a report from the Chicago Tribune.
