The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a Heat Advisory for Christian, Macon, Moultrie, Douglas, Coles, Edgar, Shelby, Cumberland, Clark, Effingham, Jasper, Crawford, Clay, Richland, and Lawrence counties, which is in effect from 11 AM this morning to 7 PM CDT this evening. Highs in the lower 90s this afternoon with tropical dewpoints in the 70s will give heat indices peaking from 100 to 108 degrees across central and southeast Illinois. Drink plenty of water, wear light weight and light colored clothing, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 9-1-1.
