Auditor General Focuses On IDOT Bridge Inspections
(Springfield, IL) — The Illinois Auditor General is releasing a new report that looks at the Illinois Department of Transportation’s bridge inspection record for a two-year period ending in June of 2018. The report says IDOT did not perform timely inspections or perform required follow-ups to ensure bridge inspections occurred. The state found that there were dozens of bridges that were overdue for inspections, including two that were 21 years overdue. The Auditor General also said IDOT did not maintain adequate controls over locally-held funds, and didn’t adhere to various reporting requirements established by state law.
