New Illinois Law Aimed At Helping People In Debt
(Chicago, IL) — Illinois’ newest law is aimed at helping people who are struggling to pay their past-due bills. Governor J.B. Pritzker yesterday signed the Consumer Fairness Act into law. The new law limits interest on post-judgment debt to five-percent, and gives companies 17 years to file claims. The old deadline was 26 years. The governor says one in three people in the state are facing a collection, and the new law should help them.
