Largest Increase In Child Deaths Involving DCFS In Over Decade
(Springfield, IL) — The state of Illinois is experiencing the largest increase in the death of children involved with DCFS in over a decade. There were 124 children who died in fiscal year 2018 that had been involved with DCFS within 12 months before their deaths. Involvement can include prior investigations, pending investigations, youth in care, adoption, intact services or any combination of these. The Office of the Inspector General investigates all child deaths with a connection to DCFS every year.
