Report from the Mattoon Police Department:
On Friday night at 11:55, Mattoon police were dispatched to the 800 block of Oklahoma Avenue in regards to a reported homicide. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a male and female within the residence had both been shot. Both individuals passed away. The incident is being investigated as a murder / suicide. The names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin. There is no danger to the public at large. Autopsies will likely be scheduled for Monday, August 12th. Further details will be released as they become available.
