The Lincoln Heritage Pheasants Forever Young Guns, a local competitive shotgun shooting team practicing at the Charleston Sportsman Club, competed at the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) Illinois State competition at World Shooting and Recreational complex in Sparta Illinois on June 28th and 29th and the National Championships at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio July 14th thru 20th.

At the Illinois State competition the Sporting Clays team of Kurt Seaton and Elena Wetzel of Charleston and Kayden Sanders of Oakland placed third in the open division for the Young Guns. Elena Wetzel added individual medals by placing 1st in 5 Stand and 2nd in skeet for the ladies intermediate division. Others that competed at the State shoot was Brandon Himes of Toledo, Annabelle Lee of Mattoon, Lucas Smith of Greenup, Tyler Smith of Greenup, Jackson Carlen of Greenup, Nick Forth of Charleston, Drew Cummings of Mattoon and Kindyl Ingle of Toledo.
6 Young Guns competed at the SCTP National Championships in Marengo Ohio. Over 3,700 youth from 31 states competed at the Cardinal Shooting Center. The Young Guns were led by Kindyl Ingle placing 2nd in doubles trap in the ladies rookie division and Elena Wetzel placing 4th in sporting clays and 9th in skeet in the ladies intermediate division. Others Young Guns that competed at the Nations was Kayden Sanders, Brandon Himes, Lucas Smith and Tyler Smith.
3 Young Gun competed in the Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA) youth shooting program known as AIM, Grand American AIM at the world shooting and recreational complex in Sparta, Illinois, Brandon Himes, Ian Sutherland and Elena Wetzel. Elena placed 1st ladies trap class D category and placed 2nd in skeet and sporting clays in the Ladies sub-juniors category.

The Lincoln Heritage Pheasants Forever Young Guns is currently having open registration for new team members for the 2019-2020 competition year. The team is open to any area youth from 4th grade threw collage age. If interested you can come check out a practice at 5:00 on Sundays or 5:30 on Tuesdays at the Charleston Sportsman Club.
