The Charleston Fire Department has issued a press release regarding the structure fire Thursday afternoon:
“On September 12, 2019 at 3:15 pm the Charleston Fire Department was
dispatched to 820 19th St in Charleston for a report of a structure fire. Upon
arrival crews found a single family residence with heavy smoke coming from the
home. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire. One of the residents was
home at the time of the fire. The heaviest fire damage was to a bedroom. The rest
of the house sustained smoke and water damage. No injuries were reported. The
family has been temporarily displaced and are being assisted the American Red
Cross. Crews were on scene until around 5 pm. The cause of the fire is currently
under investigation. The Charleston Fire Department, Charleston Police Dept.,
Mattoon Fire Dept., City of Charleston Building Dept. American Red Cross, and
Ameren CIPS.”
