Both lanes of Interstate 70 Eastbound at milepost 81 (Effingham County) were, until recently, shut down due to a multi-vehicle traffic crash. Traffic was being diverted onto U.S. Route 40 at Interstate 70 Eastbound at milepost 76 (St. Elmo exit). Traffic was being rerouted from U.S. Route 40 onto Interstate 70 Eastbound at milepost 82 (Altamont). IDOT is on scene assisting with traffic control. Interstate 70 was shut down for approximately three hours but is expected to be back to two lane traffic within the next half hour. Please use caution while traveling through the area.
