NYC Considering Chocolate Milk Ban In Schools
(New York, NY) — New York City’s education department is reportedly considering a ban on chocolate milk in public schools. The New York Post reports Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza is mulling the idea to nix the flavored milk over concerns like sugar content. Meantime a group of upstate dairy farmers have sent a letter to New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio opposing the proposal noting two-thirds of all milk served in schools is flavored. They stressed that it’s an essential way for kids to get the nutrients they need for healthy growth and development. The DOE says it looks forward to discussing the menu with farmer reps.
