D’backs Outlast Cardinals In 19-Inning Marathon
(Phoenix, AZ) — Ildemaro Vargas singled with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the 19th inning to give the D’backs a 3-2 win over the Cardinals in the longest game in the history of Chase Field. Vargas hit a solo homer in the ninth to tie the game at one and force extra innings for Arizona. Both teams scored in the 13th, with Paul Goldschmidt homering for St. Louis and Caleb Joseph singling in a run in the bottom half for the Snakes. Kevin Ginkel, the D’backs’ 13th pitcher, got the win. John Brebbia took the loss for the Cards.
