The Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports that illnesses have been reported in Colorado, Florida, Massachusetts, and Tennessee, noting that symptoms of E. coli begin 1-10 days after consumption and can include diarrhea, vomiting, and fever.
The USDA expressed concerns about frozen and infected beef that might still be in consumers’ freezers. They recommend that these products immediately be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
Concerned consumers can help protect themselves by using a meat thermometer and ensuring that the internal temperature of all cooked beef reaches 160 degrees Farenheit, the temperature necessary to kill illness-causing bacteria.
