UIS Employee Facing Backlash Over Halloween Costume
(Springfield, IL) — A University of Illinois Springfield employee is facing a backlash over her Halloween costume. A social media post shows the woman dressed as a U.S. Border Patrol Agent appearing to arrest someone dressed as an immigrant. Latino groups are calling the costume an insult, saying it holds the culture in a demeaning light. UIS public relations released a statement saying the school believes in maintaining an inclusive and welcoming environment, but can’t discuss specific personnel issues.
