Congressman John Shimkus said he is reconsidering his decision to retire now that the top Republican spot on the Energy and Commerce Committee will soon be up for grabs. Speaking to reporters yesterday, Shimkus said, “It’s true, I am at least reconsidering.” He added that lawmakers in Washington, D.C. and those in his district have asked him to stick around. Shimkus added that a key factor in his reconsideration is Greg Walden’s retirement on Monday, which opens the chance for him to seek that top GOP spot on the Energy and Commerce Committee. Walden defeated Shimkus in 2016 for that position.
