USDA Offers Tips For Keeping Leftovers Safe
(Undated) — It might be difficult to impossible to find anyone who doesn’t like Thanksgiving leftovers, but the trick is making sure leftovers don’t make you sick. The U.S. Department of Agriculture says start by storing leftovers within two hours of when they come out of the oven or off the stove. A recent USDA study found two-thirds of people surveyed said they let leftovers cool to room temperature before putting them in the fridge. But Ag Department experts say that could make the food unsafe, so leftovers should go into the fridge or freezer as soon as possible. More tips are available on the USDA website.
