A Mattoon man was arrested Friday night on charges of criminal damage to property, and obstructing a police officer. According to the Mattoon Police Department, 50-year-old Ronald Newkirk was taken into custody in the 3000 block of North Pine. Newkirk destroyed property and threatened to shoot another. After being arrested and taken to the Mattoon Police Department for processing, Newkirk refused to cooperate with the booking process.
