One person died in a fire in Charleston this morning. According to Fire Chief Steve Bennett, crews were dispatched to 411 North 4th Street at 6:36 a.m. for a report of the fire with occupants trapped inside. Bystanders confirmed one of the occupants was able to escape, however, after the fire was extinguished, crews discovered one of the residents deceased. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending the notification of the family. The fire appears to be accidental, but is currently under investigation by Illinois Fire Marshal’s Office and the Coles County Coroner’s Office.
