UPDATED @ 9:35 p.m. on 12/17: Attention all Mattoon High School students and their families: Classes for Mattoon High School, AND ONLY Mattoon High School, will NOT be in session on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2019. ALL OTHER SCHOOLS in the district will be in session and on their regular schedule Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2019.
A transformer that powers the high school needs to be replaced. As a result, there is no electricity to the building. Ameren, Commercial Electric and maintenance crews from the school district are working to solve the issue. Again, because of this work, classes at MHS will not be in session Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2019, and final exams will be postponed as outlined below. We anticipate returning to regular class schedules on Thursday, Dec. 19, and Friday, Dec. 20. These two days will be used to complete activities originally planned for Monday – Wednesday of this week. Early graduates need to attend in order to complete their coursework for the semester. If a specific conflicts exist for your family, please contact Mattoon High School.
Final exams for Mattoon High School students will take place after winter break, and they will be optional. Students will have the option to keep their current grade OR take their final exams for the opportunity to improve their grade. Final exam scores will only be applied if they improve the overall semester grade. If students opt out of exams, their final semester grade will be an average of their first quarter and second quarter grades. When MHS students return to class, their teachers will review specific details and final exam options with them.
Again, all other schools in the district will be in session and on their regular schedule Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2019. Schools that will be in session include Franklin Preschool, Mattoon Middle School, Riddle Elementary School, and Williams Elementary School.
We appreciate everyone’s patience. We will keep MHS students and families updated as information becomes available.
