Regulations protecting the Mahomet Aquifer from future contamination are in effect. Senator Scott Bennett was one of the sponsors for the bill that will require the IEPA to investigate landfills at risk of polluting the water. The aquifer was hit several years ago by a gas leak, and the families affected sued People’s Gas for not notifying them about it soon enough.
