Rep. Chris Miller Wants Action Not Words on Governor’s Priorities of Ethics Reform, Property Tax Relief and Fair Map
Oakland, IL – State Representative Chris Miller (R-Oakland) says he was pleased to hear Governor JB Pritzker outline his support of ethics reforms, property tax relief and the Fair Map, and he is hopeful there will be real action on these issues.
The Governor in his State of the State Address highlighted the need for ethics reforms and proposed ending the practice of allowing members of the General Assembly to be lobbyists while serving in the General Assembly. The Governor also expressed support for property tax relief and the Fair Map, which would allow an independent map commission to draw the legislative district boundaries rather than partisans in the General Assembly.
“The Governor is well aware of the sky-rocketing property taxes in Illinois, but we need action – not speeches,” Miller said. “I am hopeful we will see some meaningful property tax reforms enacted in Illinois. Additionally, the Governor again expressed his support for the Fair Map. There is an effort right now to get the Fair Map Amendment on the ballot. Unfortunately, House Speaker Michael Madigan has stopped this from happening in the past. If the Fair Map does get on the November ballot, the Governor could be a big help in getting it passed. I will work with Governor Pritzker to get the Fair Map passed.”
