St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Founder’s Day
On February 4, 1962, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital opened in Memphis, Tennessee. Many hospitals in the South were segregated.
After becoming the first fully integrated children’s hospital in the South when it opened, treatments invented at St. Jude helped move the overall survival rate for childhood cancer to 80%. St. Jude freely shares scientific breakthroughs with doctors and scientists around the world.
Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food, because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
