Lawmaker Looks To Tax Assault Weapons, High Capacity Magazines
(Springfield, IL) — An Illinois lawmaker is looking to impose a tax on assault weapons and large capacity magazines. State Senator Ann Gillespie filed the bill in late January. The proposed Assault Weapon Retailers’ Tax would impose a ten-percent tax on firearms that “accept large capacity ammunition feeding devices.” Money brought in from the tax would go toward preventing gun violence in schools and state-owned buildings.
