According to the Effingham County Sheriff’s Department, a northbound vehicle crossed over into the southbound lane of Dexter Road, east of Altamont, and collided head-on with a vehicle driven by 34-year-old Chauncy Kuhns, of Altamont. The driver of the northbound vehicle died at the scene, and a passenger in that vehicle was airlifted to HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. The name of the deceased has not been released.
