Washington Savings Bank holds “Give a Heart” Fundraiser to help raise Heart Health Awareness
(MATTOON, Illinois – February 14, 2020) Washington Savings Bank’s new “Give a Heart” Fundraiser was held February 1-14, 2020 to help raise Heart Health Awareness. Hearts were sold at each bank location for $1 each. 178 hearts were sold in Mattoon. The bank then matched the total number of hearts sold for a total of $356 raised to support the Sarah Bush Lincoln Heart Center.
The Sarah Bush Lincoln Heart Center will use the funds to help those who struggle to pay for costs associated with treatment. Funds will help offset costs of medications, accurate scales to monitor for heart failure symptoms, blood pressure cuffs so patients may monitor their blood pressure at home and gas cards or taxi vouchers to get them to and from appointments.
Washington Savings Bank’s Effngham locations sold 360 hearts and were able to donate $720 to The Andrew Gobczynski Big Heart Foundation. This organization has implemented a heart testing program for all sophomore student-athletes at Teutopolis, Effingham, and St. Anthony schools. This potentially life-saving testing will search for heart anomalies that are not found through regular physicals. The money raised will go towards the testing of student-athletes. Upcoming testing will be Saturday, February 29, 2020 – Mobile Kardia Testing at the Workman Sports Complex Indoor Triathlon and Saturday, March 7, 2020 – Student Athlete Testing at HSHS St. Anthony Memorial Hospital.
