Illinois 16 improvements begin March 16, Pavement work, other upgrades through Charleston
CHARLESTON – The Illinois Department of Transportation announces that construction on Lincoln Avenue (Illinois 16) between Douglas Street and Harrison Avenue in Charleston will begin March 16.
The work involves pavement resurfacing and patching as well as improvements to ADA access and traffic lights, and will require daily lane closures with at least one lane open at all times. Access to businesses within the work zone will be maintained during the project, which is expected to be functionally complete by Nov. 1.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
