Illinois 16 resurfacing resumes March 16, Work zone between I-57, Charleston
CHARLESTON – The Illinois Department of Transportation announces that the resurfacing of Illinois 16 between the west city limits of Charleston and Interstate 57 will resume March 16.
The work will require daily lane closures, with at least one lane open at all times. Access to businesses within the work zone will be maintained during the project, which is expected to last about six months.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
