An Effingham home sustained significant damage in a fire yesterday. According to the Effingham Fire Department, the fire was caused by someone accidentally leaving a stove burner on. Materials to the counter ignited and then the fire spread to the upper cabinets and into the attic. Two dogs were rescued and turned over to neighbors since the residents were not home at the time. Damage is estimated at $75,000.
