
Eugene “Gene” Russell Baker, 89, of Shelbyville, IL passed away on Monday, November 2, 2020 at home.
Gene was born on November 11, 1930, in Stevenson Township in Marion County, the son of John and Thelma (Brubaker) Baker. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War. Gene and Twilla Kenley were united in holy matrimony on August 29, 1957 in Peoria and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary before her passing on September 14, 2017. Gene worked as a toolmaker at Caterpillar, in the Aurora plant, for 42 years. He was a 66-year member of the Masonic Fraternity. He was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Shelbyville.
Surviving are his son, Don Baker of Sandwich; daughter, Mona (Jeff) Campbell of Victor, CO; two grandsons: Tyler and Chase Campbell, both of Colorado; caregivers and friends: Martha Mars, Sue Livingood, Connie Miller and Caylor LeCrone.
Preceding him in death were his parents and wife.
Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Graveside services will follow at 1:00 p.m. in Lovells Grove Cemetery, 1880 Church Cemetery, Omega, IL with Reverend Matthew Froeschle officiating and military rites performed by the Shelby County Honor Guard.
