Illinois freshman guard Andre Curbelo has been named Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year, becoming the first Illini to win the off-the-bench honor. Curbelo was also named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. He’s averaging 8.8 points and 4.2 assists, and despite playing under 21 minutes per game, Curbelo is tied for sixth in the Big Ten in assists per game, and leads the conference in assist rate.
