Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White is warning of two possible scams.
In one, scammers are sending unsolicited text messages, claiming to be from the Secretary of State. The messages contain references to “problems with your information,” and another to “IL Secretary of State.” Each text also contains a link to “uipendingcases.org.”
In the second scam, fraudulent websites are offering online vehicle registration renewals for license plate stickers and then charging an additional fee. One particular site, IllinoisCarReg.com, is misleading customers with an unauthorized website promoting the sticker renewals. If you feel you’ve been defrauded, contact your credit card company to dispute the charge.
