Charleston Community Theatre kicks off the holiday season with a play that delves deep into the nature of human relations as five members of a Midwestern women’s club come together to build the annual Christmas Parade float. Under the surge of this pleasant gathering, the women find themselves grappling with secrets, betrayal, and their own hard and fast notions of right and wrong. The show is set in central Illinois by Chicago playwright Patricia Kane.
When CCT began looking for a play to ad to its mid-season, Director Ann Morris Bruehler read the script for Flat and knew she had a winner. “This script has everything – joy, laughter, heartaches. I laugh out load and tear up during every rehearsal. The script is wonderful and the ladies in the cast are really bringing their all.” Cast members include CCT regulars Holly Allen, Carrie Drennan, and Heather Siegel, and CCT newcomers Tricia Brown and Annabelle Heddell.
“I love that our show continues the CCT mission and tradition of bringing new people in the theatre fold,” Bruehler said, noting that Stage Manager Mario Escamilla is also working with CCT for the first time.
Producers Richard G. Jones, Jr. and Priscilla McKinney are also working as set designers and builders for the show. The cast members decorate the float during the first act and deconstruct it during the second act. Float carries adult themes.
Float is presented in the Charleston Community Theatre’s space in the lower level of the Elks Club #623, 720 6th Street, Charleston, IL. Show times are at 7:30 p.m. on November 11, 12, 17, 18, 19 and at 2:00 p.m. on November 13. Tickets are $12.00 for adults, $10.00 for seniors and $5.00 for students.
