Snow Flurries Give Hope for The Salvation Army’s Christmas Campaign
MATTOON, ILLIONIS-This year’s Christmas Campaign has collected as of December 18, 2023, $62,922 towards its annual goal of $150,000. This amounts to 42% with only 13 days left to finish the remaining. When asked why he thinks the campaign isn’t further along Captain Stephen DeLacy said “It hasn’t felt like Christmas yet, it has been too warm this year and the community is not used to seeing our famous Red Kettle Bell Ringers when temperatures are in the 50s. Yet with Monday’s snow flurries, we have a chance to finish the Kettle portion of our Christmas Campaign strong and trust that our wonderful community will respond with a renewed sense of Christmas spirit to see us make goal.”
The Salvation Army Mattoon Corps, which serves Coles & Cumberland Counties, raises monies through the generosity of donors through its famous red kettles and mail in donations during Christmas. The funds ensure not only those in need in the community have brighter Christmas but have programs of help all the yearlong. These include Hunger Relief, Homelessness Prevention, Utilities Aid, Community Center Programs & so much more.
“We’ve come this far because of the fantastic volunteers & donors that make serving those in need in possible all year round.”
