Rep. Miller Applauds President Trump’s Executive Order to Shut Down the Department of Education
WASHINGTON, D.C.— Today, Congresswoman Mary Miller (IL-15) released the following statement after President Donald Trump signed an executive order to shut down the Department of Education and return power over education to families instead of corrupt bureaucrats:
“Today is a historic day for students and parents across America. As a mother of seven homeschooled children, I applaud President Trump for completing his promise to dismantle the Department of Education and put parents back in control,” said Congresswoman Miller. “For far too long, our students have been left behind by woke, unaccountable Washington bureaucrats and a bloated system failing them academically. Now, our country has the opportunity to expand educational freedom, increase opportunities for families, and unlock our full potential.”
President Trump’s executive order directs the Secretary of Education to take all necessary steps to facilitate the closure of the Department of Education and return education authority to the states while ensuring the continued, effective, and uninterrupted delivery of essential services, programs, and benefits that Americans rely upon.
Congresswoman Miller has long advocated for school choice and dismantling the Department of Education. Congresswoman Miller recently published an op-ed in the Washington Examiner with Congressman Mark Harris (NC-08).
Congresswoman Miller chairs the Congressional Family Caucus and serves on the Committees on Agriculture, Education and Workforce, and House Administration.
